We have been learning all about The Great Fire of London in 1666. We built a Tudor Village, acted out the story and performed it in our assembly, learned the song "London's Burning," read the original diary entries of Samuel Pepys-a survivor of the Great Fire, and wrote our own diary entries pretending to be him! We even climbed all 311 steps to get to the top of The Monument built to remember the Great Fire on Pudding Lane! Afterwards, we climbed up Tower Bridge and got a great view of London and all the landmarks that we've learned about.

Staying Healthy in Year 2

Staying Healthy in Year 2 1
Staying Healthy in Year 2 2
We've been learning all about healthy living in Science! We've been given a healthy diary challenge each week to see if we are getting enough sleep, eating a variety of healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, and doing an hour of physical activity each day. On Mondays we do an hour of P.E., on Wednesdays we do 30 minutes of swimming, and every day we're at school we play outside for 45 minutes. To get additional fitness time in we have been doing some fitness videos in class and the children are encouraged to try it at home as well. Check out the link below! Playing at the park, going for walks, playing football, and skipping are all great, fun ways of staying healthy! Whoever continues to bring in their Healthy Diary Challenge sheets completed will get a prize at the end of term!

On Monday, 3rd December, we went to the Science Museum because we have been learning all about the planets and space exploration! We wrote a recount of our journey to the Science Museum and all the fun things we experienced. Read some of our amazing writing above!

All About Space

All About Space 1
All About Space 2
All About Space 3
We are learning all about space in our topic unit this term. We each researched our favourite planet in our English lessons and wrote a report explaining all the facts we learned. We have been building our own rockets, pretending to blast off to the moon like Neil Armstrong. We made galaxy art, painting the different planets and stars. We have been really excited to be learning all about the International Space Station and have been watching videos of Chris Hadfield, a Canadian astronaut, doing science experiments in space and explaining what life is like for astronauts on the International Space Station. You can watch some of the videos if you follow the link below!

Wringing out Water on the ISS - for Science!

2013-04-16 - CSA Astronaut Chris Hadfield performed a simple science experiment designed by grade 10 Lockview High School students Kendra Lemke and Meredith Faulkner. The students from Fall River, Nova Scotia won a national science contest held by the Canadian Space Agency with their experiment on surface tension in space using a wet washcloth.
